WORLD War Two veteran Denis Fawcett, of Minehead, has been presented with the Legion d’Honneur – the highest decoration in France.

“It was a joyful but tiring day,” said Denis.
Denis was a member of 41 Royal Marines Commando and landed at Lion-sur-Mer at 9am on June 6, 1944, having previously taken part in landings in Sicily and Salerno.
The French Government awards the Legion d’Honneur to foreigners such as Denis as a way of honouring and thanking those who fought and risked their lives to secure France’s liberation during World War Two.
