SIR — We in West Somerset have been very pleased to note that a good many highway maintenance jobs have been done recently, made possible by the good weather we've been having, no doubt, and to a very good standard.

However, one drawback has been that, although notice of road closures has been given in the press and appropriate signs put up, these road signs have not, in several cases, been removed when the job is done and regular bus passengers have been left stranded in some villages when buses were prevented from obtaining access. It is then the poor bus drivers suffer the complaints of irate passengers.

Perhaps there could be better communication between the highway maintenance crews and those responsible for placing and removing road signs. It would save a lot of confusion and annoyance all round.
