KILVE gained a long awaited but unconvincing victory against relegation doomed Castle Cary in a low scoring affair at Kilve on Saturday.

Batting first Cary had a slow but steady start before their innings took a miserable collapse.

Kilve seamers Dave Cobb and Phil Sylvester applied early pressure with accurate and economic bowling and were soon rewarded with a wicket each to put Cary on 33-2 after 16 overs.

Kilve's spin bowling captain Glen Manchip then joined the attack to take the wickets of Lake and Cary's top scorer Barber for 16 to have Cary struggling on 53-4 after 27 overs.

Shaun Mitchell (4-27) linked up with Manchip (4-25) to destroy the middle and lower order as the innings folded at 95 all out after 36 overs, only Collins (15) and Horsington (12) making any significant contribution.

Kilve's reply got off to a poor start when Manchip was bowled by Cary veteran Mel Coates in the third over and Stuart Lloyd was lbw to Coates shortly after to put Kilve on 19-2.

Hard hitting Aussie Shaun Mitchell struck a rapid 55 which included three sixes, but with other Kilve wickets falling cheaply they were a little nervous when Mitchel was out and Kilve were 90-6 after 21 overs.

Dave Cobb (16 no) had settled however and kept the score ticking over until victory was reached when the innings closed on 99-6.

Coates was Cary's most successful bowler with 4-37.

Castle Cary: 95 (C Barber 16, G Manchip 4-25, S Mitchell 4-27).

Kilve: 99-6 (S Mitchell 55, D Cobb 16 no, M Coates 4-37).
