KILVE had to hold on for a draw against visitors Chew Magna on Saturday in their Division One match.

Put in on a lively track, Chew were given an excellent start by openers Gatton and King, who put on 126.

It wasn't until the 34th over that Gatton was stumped off the spin of Glen Manchip, while King carried on to make 80 before being bowled by Manchip.

Mondane (36) and Gordon (24) were Chew's other main contributors before both were stumped off Manchip's bowling.

The innings closed on 219-6 with Manchip claiming all the wickets to fall, with four of his 6-85 haul stumpings by wicketkeeper Stuart Lloyd.

Kilve's reply started promisingly as Lloyd and Manchip combined again to put on 76 from 15 overs before Manchip was caught behind for 30.

Aussie Shaun Mitchell joined Lloyd and played some good attacking shots to maintain the run rate, but Kilve's hopes were shattered in the 25th over when, with the score on 109, Lloyd was bowled for 42 and two overs later Mitchell was caught on the boundary for 27.

Nick James, making a comeback after several years, played a good attacking cameo for 31 before he was caught behind, and teenager Ben Brewer made 16.

But as other wickets fell cheaply, Kilve finished well short on 176-8.
