KILVE Village Hall has signed up to EqualiTeas – a chance to debate and celebrate equality over a cup of tea – to mark the centenary of The Representation of the People Act 1918.

Kilve’s Equalitea, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday (June 23), will include screening of ‘Make More Noise’ - the motto of the Suffragettes. It consists of Pathé News footage from the time, such as the fateful Derby Day and women gaining their independence by working assembling bombs in the munitions factory.

It also shows, quite graphically, how women took to destroying buildings to get their voice heard.

The afternoon will also feature information from local organisations, short talks by local speakers and games plus tea or coffee. Admission is free.

The 1918 Act paved the way to men and women over 21 gaining the right to vote ten years later.

EqualiTeas is part of programme of events from UK Parliament to mark 2018’s important milestones for democracy.
