As an ex-councillor, I read with interest Cllr Hugh Davies’ comments on the A358 closure (Free Press February 8), as I had contacted county highways about the same points.
The emergency services are my main worry. Although Cllr Davies said he saw a couple of emergency vehicles going through Wiliton, I see more than you can count on two hands go past my house on most days.
You have also recently reported on a walker from Minehead who waited for over two hours for an ambulance after falling and was rescued by the Coastguard, and the following day another incident in Watchet when a lady fell on the Esplanade, when luckily an off-duty paramedic was there and called for help, with an ambulance arriving along with the Coastguard and they worked together to put her in ambulance.
With the time it can take for an ambulance to arrive, and the prospect of an extra 20 minutes needed to go via St Audries to Taunton, would it not be better to leave a frontline ambulance in Williton or Minehead at all times while the road is being repaired?
Edwin May, Tower Hill, Wiliton.
