I had occasion to attend an Old Cleeve Parish Council meeting last week, when historic cast iron signposts on Exmoor in need of refurbishment were discussed, with a view to public involvement in a two-year project to undertake this work.

Minehead Tesco customers help charities feed thousands of families over Christmas This interesting project made me think how sad it was to see, dating back a year or so, original black and white bus stop signs being replaced by universal and anonoymous lime green bus stop signs.
The original signs were once very specific in their depiction of not only the name of the stop area but also illustrated, like the Sacred Heart Church bus stop in Townsend Road, Minehead.
With the new bus stops, if the area is unfamiliar one could easily get off at the wrong one, as I’m sure must happen in the case of visitors from time to time.
Rural towns appear to be losing their individuality it seems. Such a pity. We’re becoming just like everywhere else!
