MINEHEAD optician Judith Searle will be joined by her son Joshua when she runs the London 10k next month to raise money for Vision Aid Oversees.

Judith, of B R James Opticians in Minehead, wants to raise at least £1,500 for the vision charity and is also preparing to spend two weeks working in an eye clinic in Ethiopia in November.

She is currently in training for the run and all the money raised will be used to set-up vision centres where people can access eye tests and spectacles.

The charity also trains in-country eye care workers and establishes community-based services in poor and marginalised areas.

Her son Joshua, 21, works in the sales department at DESO Engineering in Williton and is more akin to high-jumping for Taunton Athletics Club than running.

But, like his mother, he is training hard and hoping to break the one hour mark.

The pair can be sponsored by calling in to either B R James Opticians in Minehead or the White Horse Pub in Washford.
