SIR — Once again we have the anti-nuclear brigade charging about using their out of date data to try to frighten the population into using information which will place this country into an energy desert.

All manufactured systems are subject to improvements. This also applies to atomic power plants, which have advanced considerably since those built in the 1950s - these are now being closed down.

In Japan, the first of their old ones was being closed down and the others were to follow as they were not of good design, but the earthquake and tsunami arrived too soon. One can only pity Japan's suffering.

We however are in no position to suffer such an earthquake or tsunami, nor are we going to build out of date nuclear power stations.

The standrards of safety incorporated in the build are second to none. Not only are all the safety measures applying to nuclear power being applied but the Heath and Safety Executive will also be keeping a beady eye on the construction.

It is well known that if all the solar panels, windmills and as many nuclear power plants as possible are built, this country will still be hard pressed to have sufficient power in 2025, so it's all hands to the pump for the next 14 years.
