SIR — I read with dismay the report about the highways department's opposition to Barry Fowler's application for permission to continue using the Home Farm Dairy due to ten personal injury incidents within half a kilometre of the road entrance (Fee Press December 30).
They say that they have to do everything possible to reduce traffic movements in that area.
I have used the A39 many, many times and driving on it is awful on it – not just along that stretch.
If there is concern for that specific part of the road then almost opposite, at Loxhole Bridge, is another company working almost in the same line of business but aimed more at domestic buyers who visit to see the wares.

Council abandons planned improvement of A39 cycling route from Dunster to CarhamptonI am sure their entrance is used more than Barry Fowler's, yet they were allowed to set up business after the Home Farm site had been running for a few years.
I assume the highways department will advise the two Dunster shows that use the polo field alongside the dairy to find another site due to road safety.
Alternatively they could do what they ought to do and accept that the road is not suited to the traffic it carries and do something about it.
