SIR — I must confess I rarely use the railways, either the local line or any other, but I have followed with interest the letters in the Free Press suggesting trains run between Minehead and Taunton and beyond.

I see there have been one or two letters from people telling us why, in their opinion, it can’t be done. I have no idea whether it would be as difficult as they say or not.

But the thing that strikes me, as a kind of neutral person, is that those one or two who have written against it seem not to be saying it can’t be done but instead what they mean is they don’t want it to work.

I don’t know why such people are so negative and dismissive of those in favour of it. If it will bring business and tourism into the area, I can’t understand what those who write letters against it are so scared of.

John Williams,

Minehead.
