SIR — Last week a family group came down to visit Old Cleeve. As the sun was shining in the afternoon we all walked up to the village to look at an old family home and to visit the church.
I was appalled and embarrassed to find that the lane down to Black Monkey Bridge and the Old Tannery is now being used as a dog toilet. We all had to pick our way carefully up and down the lane to avoid stepping in the dog mess.
I have to say that the rest of the village does not suffer from the same problem, so it boils down to sheer laziness and lack of consideration of a small minority of dog owners that are causing this problem.
If you do not allow your dog to foul in or around your property then do not allow it elsewhere. Responsible dog owners pick up afterwards.
Not only is it illegal for dogs to foul this public highway but it is unhygienic, anti-social and totally disrespectful to the residents and other users of this single-track lane who have to walk, cycle or drive through the mess.
The matter has been reported to the council and dog warden, plus the parish council, for action to be taken against the dog owners who are causing this problem.
Perhaps the prosecution of offenders is the only way that this can be resolved.
G M Williams,
Old Cleeve.
