FOXES Academy students, staff, families and friends ended an exceptionally busy term at the Regal Theatre, Minehead, for a celebration of outstanding achievements and successes.

Students had worked tirelessly serving over 600 guests booked in for Christmas functions at Foxes Hotel – double the number they had welcomed the previous year.

During their personal development week, students were able to decide on their own activities through the collective voice of the Student Leadership Team. They enjoyed collecting parcels for the local food bank and took part in external visitor sessions from the National Careers Service, Samaritans and Police Community Support Officers.

They also learned about the political parties and then exercised their right to vote in the recent General Election.

The top inspirational student award went to Emily Fox, 21, who has Down syndrome with global development delay. In second place was Alex Edwards, 20, who has the same condition, and in third place was Olivia Edwards, (no relation) also 20 and who has Down syndrome.

The awards were followed by a “Xmas-tastic Variety Show” with lots of audience participation.

Emma Spry has been appointed the new principal of Foxes Academy, with which she has been an important part for over 16 years, with a focus on education and quality.

Emma thanked everyone in the community who has supported Foxes students: “That support is life-changing for young lives.

“You can see it everywhere you look – in our local shops, through employers offering vital work placements and with the people who enjoy the hospitality at Foxes Hotel.

“Community participation helps students to live independent lives. We wish everyone a very happy, healthy and successful 2020.”
