SIR — I read with interest the report about housing imbalance in Williton (Free Press October 1).
Although I agree totally with the principle that the level of 35 per cent of affordable homes should be triggered by the same level of new build across the whole district, I found the attitude of Williton councillors to be inexplicable.
When I lived in Sussex, councillors fought tooth and nail to get as many affordable homes in their consituencies as possible.
After all, with the current ridiculously high level of house prices, it is the only way that many young people can afford to stay in the area.
Complaining about the higher proportion of affordable homes in Williton seems ridiculous when it is for many the only way to keep young, vital, wage earners in West Somerset.
