SIR — Being in the dark about the wheel on the Esplanade in Minehead, as seemed everyone else at the time, I thought when I saw the base being erected that our cash-strapped council was either drilling for oil or perhaps there was some ghastly sewage disaster under the Esplanade needing attention.
After seeing the pictures on the front page of the Free Press, I was surprised when driving in to Minehead to see the wheel on the horizon from a number of directions – it was most impressive, in fact quite classy.
It seems to beckon to the seafront, and when there, the attractions alongside look tasteful and in keeping, too. Well done!
However, one would agree with the residents in the apartments opposite the wheel understandably having serious grievances.
At least they were given a chance to have, and seemingly enjoy, a ride on the wheel, which may help to appease their annoyance at something like that impeding their delightful view of the Severn Channel.
