REGULAR Minehead visitor Thelma Neate has been so impressed with the blooming loveliness of the town's public parks that she is planning a sweet treat for the people who tend them.
Mrs Neate's thank you to be shared among the staff and volunteers who keep Blenheim Gardens and The Parks in tip-top condition will come in the form of biscuits and cakes.
Both areas are looked after by West Somerset Council, whose grounds maintenance manager Adrian Turner was delighted to receive a letter of gratitude from Mrs Neate, who lives in Wimborne in Dorset.
"Both always look well cared for and I know from staying opposite the gardens that someone is always there working," she wrote.
"I was thrilled to see the daffodils and snowdrops this week and, although they are a pest, the squirrels have been a joy.
"If possible, I would like to give perhaps a (large) packet of biscuits or some cakes for these special people to enjoy on their break to show my appreciation."
A team of volunteers works with council staff to keep Blenheim Gardens looking at its best and new members are always welcome.
Chris Hall, the council's assistant director for operational delivery, said Mrs Neate's letter was a great credit to the team and volunteers.
And the authority's environment portfolio holder Cllr Anthony Trollope-Bellew said it was gratifying to get a compliment, especially one so deserved for the staff and volunteers who worked so hard in all weathers.
"West Somerset Council is understandably very proud of its wonderful open spaces which provide so much pleasure to residents and visitors," he said.
