A RARE archive of 60 years of West Somerset hunting in photographs and reports compiled by a doyen of country sports the late Eric Green, will be on view at the EMN community hall, Monksilver, on Sunday (February 10).
For many years a hunt correspondent for the Free Press, and forestry manager of the Combe Sydenham estate, Eric was a familiar figure at local staghound, foxhound, harrier and mink-hound meets in Somerset and Devon.
From his schooldays until his death at 72 in 1996, he kept an assiduous record of rural West Somerset life through diaries and photographs and was out with a hunt only a week before he died.
Although both his wife and daughter rode, Eric preferred to follow hunts by car accompanied by a dog and a camera. As a member of the West Somerset hunt club committee, he was instrumental in setting up the Dunster Country Fair hound show.
His archive was bequeathed to Hound magazine but is now on loan in West Somerset for the exhibition which is in aid of the West Somerset hunt.
The organisers of the exhibition, open from 9.30am to 5pm, advise visitors to bring a magnifying glass!
