HARDWORKING members of Huish Champflower village hall management committee recently won a prestigious West Somerset district award – and a coveted quality standard award.

The 17 members proudly received the Pearce Shield for West Somerset, which recognises outstanding achievement for a village hall in the district, and a Hallmark One quality standard certificate at recent annual awards given by the Community Council for Somerset.

The community council praised the committee for its hard work and efforts to achieve Hallmark One, and said its accounts were the best records they had seen.

It said that, although the hall was old, it had real charm and huge potential, and the committee’s efforts shone through with great plans to develop and improve the site, including modernising sports facilities and increasing parking.

“For more than 18 months village hall committee members have been actively working toward obtaining the Hallmark certificate, and the Pearce Shield is an unexpected but very welcome bonus - all our volunteers should be proud,” said committee chairman Roy Phillips (pictured centre).

“These awards are very important to us, and show any prospective funder we are up to scratch.”
