THE annual Timberscombe Show saw attendance increase by nearly half on the numbers who visited the village hall last year.

It had been a poor year in 2022 for growers, but 2023 proved better, with a larger number of entrants overall and new people taking up the challenge.

The show was well supported in the children’s section with the walls panelled with prints and sketches provided by the youngsters.

Tables were filled with vegetables, flowers, bakery, and homemade preserves, as well as a craft table crammed with exhibits which demonstrated the wealth of creative and green fingered talent in the village.

Village hall trustee and treasurer Lesley Webb said: “The afternoon was a happy occasion and the atmosphere was lively.

“Thank you to everybody who contributed to the raffle, including some local traders who gave vouchers.

“Thank you again to Allan Sutton for leading the auction.”

Mrs Webb said the show was grateful to staff of Timberscombe First School and Pre-school for their enthusiasm and engagement with the event and for organising the children’s school projects which was displayed on the day.

She said thanks should go to all the judges who constantly gave up their valuable time to help keep village shows going, and to the stewards and everybody else who helped with ‘the myriad of tasks’, and those in the community who went along to enjoy the benefits and might be encouraged to enter the show in future.
