Opening last week’s Free Press I thought I had slept through a time zone and woken up on April 1st.

The previous week’s issue led with a story of several holidaymakers and the lifeboat tractor becoming stuck in the mud in Minehead Bay.

Last week’s issue led with a new promotion of Minehead Bay . . . encouraging people to “Discover Hidden Treasures”.

Seriously? So we will have numbers of unsuspecting holidaymakers putting themselves at risk of becoming stuck in the mud looking to discover hidden treasures’ of the bay.

Did nobody think to advise the media experts of the dangerous field of mud out there, or talk to the lifeboat crews who will have to rescue them?

And what about the “public consultation”? How many people were consulted? When? Where?

Speaking to numerous people around the town, no one seemed to be aware of the exercise or the four possible options.

Why were they not supplied to the Free Press to publicise and ask for opinions (as happened with the Exmoor flag project?

This seems to be another case of a small number of people making decisions for the majority . . . and where have we heard that before?
