Armed units and hostage negotiators were dispatched to the scene, which was cordoned off as a precaution.
Everyone concerned was in for a long day but the drama came to a peaceful conclusion nearly 12 hours later at 10.35pm.
The woman first left the premises, and police say she will be offered a range of support services including counselling.
A 53-year-old man shortly followed and was taken into custody at Yeovil Police Station. Officers secured the scene of the drama and recovered a crossbow.
