A FORTNIGHT'S break proved nothing like a holiday for husband and wife team Jeff and Elaine Floyd.

The West Somerset couple set themselves a challenge of walking coast to coast from St Bees on the west coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood Bay on the east coast of North Yorkshire.

And completing the 192-mile trek just a few weeks ago has raised at least £3,000 for the Help for Heroes charity.

Elaine, an extra care scheme manager for Magna at Silvermead in Alcombe, and postman Jeff have a son and niece serving in the Armed Forces so the cause is particularly fitting.

"We did the walk for all the forces' personnel because they do such a fantastic job," said Elaine.

The couple averaged between 11 and 23 miles a day and stayed in B&Bs and hotels along the route, picking up all the costs - including transporting their luggage - themselves.

"It was a pretty expensive trip but we are really pleased to have raised so much," said Elaine.

"We were very lucky with the weather, only having three bad days, and we felt really well at the end of the walk - we didn't even have any blisters!

"We're just so grateful to everyone who supported us."
