TWO Hobbits arrived in West Somerset last weekend – to enjoy a two-day walk and sample the hospitality of pubs they found in the Good Beer Guide.

Tolkien enthusiasts Jules Read and Richard Heginbotham have been bringing the legendary figures to life on Hobbit Holidays for the past 20 years and were visiting West Somerset for the first time.

“We try to look as close to Tolkien’s creation of hobbits as we can” Jules said.” Our main concession is that we don’t hike in bare feet, though we often go barefooted in our overnight locations. As an example, we walked around Watchet in bare feet, last night.

“Our first Hobbit Holiday was in the Lake District, our most visited area of the country. At our peak, we have had nine participants, but we usually have four or five.

“It’s our first Hobbit Holiday in Somerset, but will not be our last.”
