EXMOOR farming families are being invited to find out more about the Hill Farming Network at an official launch next Thursday. The network is an information and co-ordination service, giving Exmoor's upland farmers access to training, knowledge and new opportunities through national schemes. The launch, which takes place at Westermill Farm, Exford, between 2.30pm and 7.30pm, will include farm tours, talks about livestock, woodland and land management and an insight into tourism diversification. There will also be a range of business and information stands, cream teas and a barbecue. Advance booking is essential through network officer Katherine Williams on 01643 841455 or by emailing [email protected]">[email protected]. Network chairman Dave Knight said: "The launch is an opportunity for farming families to discuss what they want from the network, to find out what we are doing and to spend time together celebrating changes and opportunities for Exmoor farming. "As an independent, farmer-led network, we want to increase farming incomes by supporting the next generation and improving livestock and land management. "The funding support from Defra, RDPE, the Prince's Countryside Fund and Exmoor National Park Authority are important to build a strong foundation for the Network going forward." The network has already organised sprayer operative courses, held information events on new sheep movement requirements and hosted farm visits and talks. Membership of the network is free and more information is available from the team on 01643 841455.
