A high-risk missing person was found by a search and rescue team on the edge of Exmoor and airlifted to hospital.

Fourteen members of the Exmoor Search and Rescue Team with three response vehicles from Taunton and South Molton were involved in the incident.

They were called in to help by Avon and Somerset Police who had launched the search.

A spokesperson for the Exmoor team said the missing person was found with help from members of the public and treated in the unit's specialist ambulance.

The paramedic and casualty carers then called for help from the Coastguard and the rescue helicopter from St Athan was sent to take the casualty to hospital on Tuesday night.

A team spokesperson said: "We'd like to extend our thanks for the members of the public for their assistance and we wish the casualty a quick recovery."
