Further to the concern over the trees in The Avenue (Free Press July 12), has anyone else noticed how beautiful the lines of roadside limes in Minehead’s back streets are, now that they have not suffered the annual mutilation (or lopping) that usually disfigures them.

Healthy and green, like lines of green guardsmen’s busbies, and an absolute heaven for bees when in flower, it is to be hoped they may they be allowed to naturalise.

If anyone thinks they are “overgrown” or “untidy”, remember that not only are they taking in CO2 but giving out the very oxygen we need to breathe.
