SCHOOLBOY Harry Gundrill has started his first West Somerset business to earn himself some pocket money – at the age of 11 years.

Harry, who lives in Roadwater and attends Minehead Middle School, has started washing cars for his neighbours in return for whatever they can afford to pay.

He has been delivering leaflets around the village with his mother Sophie Gundrill and advertising on social media to drum up customers.

Ms Gundrill, who previously lived in Porlock, said Harry was inspired by his brother Charlie, aged 16, who is starting his GCSEs in the West Somerset College, Minehead.

She said Charlie was earning money by working part-time as a housekeeper in the Luttrell Arms Hotel, Dunster, where she worked as a receptionist, and Harry decided he also wanted to find a way to bring in an income.

Ms Gundrill said: “I work very hard and my partner works very hard, so it is nice to see the boys following that example and not just demanding money for themselves.

“I feel I have tried to encourage them to be engaging and confident and I am proud of them.”

Ms Gundrill said Harry had received a good response from villagers, particularly elderly residents who enjoyed chatting with a youngster.

She said Harry was trying to save some of his money to buy a virtual reality (VR) headset and was also looking at his other work options, such as offering to cut people’s lawns.

Family members helped provide some of the car washing gear needed by Harry and once he was set up he began putting in a few hours after school and at weekends.

Ms Gundrill said: “There’s no set price, he is happy for you to pay what you feel is fair.

“If anybody would like their car cleaned, just give me a call or text on 07581 272321.”
