SIR — I am responding to David Gliddon's comments on Williton "becoming a dormitory village and retirement home for people from the Midlands and South East" (Free Press May 2). I will remember his welcoming words next time I think I might give his business my custom. It's a big world out there and we raise and educate our children to broaden their lives and join a profession. Most of them fly their nests and begin life's big adventure. That's what most of us want for our children. We all reach a time when we have to retire, and to be honest, why not choose a lovely place such as Williton? We are happy to bring our wealth, support local businesses, work tirelessly as volunteers and keep the footpaths walked. Don't worry Mr Gliddon, one thing is sure in this life and that is that we will all die, and when we do there's nothing to stop you buying our houses and adding them to your portfolio. Sally Meneilly (immigrant from the South East), Sampford Brett.
