The inspection of about 7,000 headstones at Yeovil Cemetery is underway.

As previously reported, a spate of fatal accidents across the UK led to The Association of Burial Authorities urging nationwide safety checks.

Ruth Kendall, chairman of the Yeovil Crematorium and Cemetery Committee, said that most memorials are stable and safe, but added an inspection was necessary as some stones had started to deteriorate.
