SIR — Last week's approval of the Hinkley C plans was a major step forward not only for West Somerset in particular but the United Kingdom in general.

Let us now show the world that not only can UK plc build Olympic stadia on time, in safety, without industrial unrest and on (realistic) budget - and then provide world class sport and entertainment - but that also we can, and will, do the same for Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

It may be French owned but the British will show how it should be built.

West Somerset must grasp this once in a lifetime opportunity to provide quality and excellence in service and work force for this prestigious new venture.
