PEOPLE from the local churches will come together for a silent Walk of Witness along Minehead’s main street today, Good Friday.

A wooden cross will be carried at the front of the walkers in memory of Jesus’s walk to his crucifixion.

Starting in Wellington Square at 11am with prayers led by the Rev David Croucher from the Sacred Heart RC Church, the walkers will go to The Avenue Methodist Church for a short service led by the church’s minister the Rev Tina Macdonald. Coffee and hot cross buns will be available afterwards.

“The purpose of the walk is to remind the walkers and those who see them that Jesus’s death on a cross was a real event, but it proved not to be the end of the story,” said Rev Croucher, chairman of Christians Together in Minehead, who are organising the walk.

“For us today we can only see it in the light of the resurrection experiences that followed it a few days later. Both key moments remain of central importance to Christians regardless of which church they belong to and make their ongoing challenge to everyone.

“That is why it is important and significant that we do such an act of witness together and in public. Anyone is welcome to join us.”
