Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club opened its course on Wednesday May 13 in line with the Government’s easing of lockdown restrictions.

Members are restricted to playing with one other person and have to bear in mind social distancing among other factors. The clubhouse remains closed and competitions have yet to be resumed.

Ian Gover, club captain, said: “It was wonderful to be out playing the course again. It is in fantastic condition thanks to the greenkeepers’ hard work.

“Despite having some of the team furloughed, they have maintained high standards that mean we have the best greens in the area. There were so many happy faces at the end of the week.”

He said the club had suffered a loss of income and there were challenging times to come: “But with visitors now being allowed back to play, there are signs of better things ahead.”
