Two groups are to be set up in Yeovil for young women who are pregnant or have had a child during the last twelve months.
Health visitors from South Somerset Primary Care Trust will run both groups at Milford Hall.
The Bumps and Babes group will meet each Monday from April 15th, and provides an opportunity for mothers-to-be (ideally aged 16 TO 21) to meet others in a similar situation. Group members will be able to share their hopes and fears etc. about pregnancy and motherhood.
Meetings are held between 1pm and 3pm.
An "under one" group will be set up for young women (ideally in their mid 20s or below) with kids below the age of one.
FRIENDSHIP
This group will meet each Wednesday, starting on April 17th, between 1pm and 3pm.
Health visitor Liz Peel said: "Local health visitors have set up these groups in response to the needs of young mums. We hope they will offer young mums with babies and young mums-to-be an opportunity to meet up for friendship and social activities on a regular basis.
"There will also be a chance to try out a new hobby - perhaps to learn more about make-up and beauty routines, exercise to music, improving your cookery skills or even painting or drawing."
Ms Peel added that a Friday group for mums and toddlers is planned for the near future.
Those wishing to know more about the groups can talk to their midwife or health visitor or call Ms Peel at Westlake Surgery, West Coker, on 01935 862212.
