A TEENAGER suffered serious injuries after falling around 40 feet from the cliff top at Kilve beach in the early hours last Saturday.

The incident happened after the 18-year-old from the Taunton area had left her friends at a beach party which was being held at the spot.

Coastguards from Watchet and Minehead were called out to help South West Ambulance crews at about 1am.

Simon Bale from the Watchet Coastguard Rescue Team said: "This young lady was lucky not to have been fatally injured."

Mr Bale said anyone out and about near cliffs, particularly during the hours of darkness, should take extra care.

"Take a torch so you can see where you are going and stay away from cliff edges."

Mr Bale also warned people not to forget that alcohol could affect their ability to make decisions and could impair their judgement.
