CHILDREN at Teddy Bears Nursery, in Washford, are now the proud owners of a new pedal fire engine donated by the charity Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany.
The fire engine was won in a raffle but, when the winner was unable to collect, it was agreed it would be donated to an organisation of the charity’s choice.
It has now been done up with the Devon & Somerset Fire Brigade logo and donated to the nursery, which is where Bethany Adams – for whom the charity is named – attended.
“Bethany really enjoyed her time at the nursery and we wanted to give something back to the present and future children who will attend,” said Helen Adams, Bethany’s mother and one of the charity’s founders.
The gift was met with great excitement by the potential young drivers when Helen handed it over at the nursery.
Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany was set up by her family when the 17-year-old, of Williton, died in a car crash in 2012 while a passenger in a car driven by a newly qualified young driver who lost control.
The charity funds go-karting driver awareness courses, called Choice and Consequence, for 16 to 25-year-olds.
Those attending the programmes benefit from both classroom-based discussions and presentations, and go-kart track sessions, helping young people identify and negotiate hazards. Information can be found on the charity’s Facebook page.
