WITH the emphasis of this year's Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal on helping the Afghan generation of the armed forces, sellers like Harry Clark and Reuben Hardman have been busy across West Somerset.

They are the oldest and youngest poppy sellers in Minehead - Harry was 90 in September and Reuben is 17.

l WILLITON'S war memorial will be re-consecrated in a special ceremony on Remembrance Day.

The Celtic stone cross was first put up in the village's Memorial Ground just over two years ago.

A public appeal and other donations brought in almost £3,000 to enable the local branch of the Royal British Legion to provide the first permanent tribute to the men of the village killed in two world wars.

But RBL members launched another appeal earlier this year to fund the cost of moving the memorial a short distance because it was too close to the railings surrounding the War Memorial shelter.

Branch chairman Bert Pearson said the £1,000 raised had allowed the memorial to be moved to the centre of the gates and a garden of remembrance to be planted with shrubs, heathers and bulbs.

"We had a lot of support from local businesses and individuals and we would really like to thank them publicly for their help."

The re-consecration service will take place at 11am on Wednesday November 11 in the Memorial Ground and will be conducted by the vicar of Williton, the Rev Richard Allen.
