Minehead X-ray department reopens as new equipment ready sooner than expectedThere need to be 20 barrows for the race to go ahead, but Minehead BID is doubtful that there are enough competitors strong enough to want to tackle the 550-metre course.
In pairs, and sharing the push, participants may find the start half way along North Road into The Avenue relatively easy: “But there are two beer stops along The Avenue!” said Minehead BID chairman Graham Sizer.
And BID director Samantha White said: “Pushing a loaded barrow on the flat is one thing. Up even the slightest gradient like The Avenue may prove more difficult.
“Thankfully it’s not all about strength or time. It’s all about taking part.”
The race is planned for Saturday June 23 when The Avenue, Blenheim Road and North Road will be closed for Minehead Cycling Grand Prix. The closing date for entry is June 9. For an entry form or information about the wheelbarrow race contact Minehead BID at [email protected].
