SEASONAL Santas braved the weather on Sunday for the annual Minehead Rotary Santa Fun from the West Somerset College and 1610 Sports Centre.
The main five-mile route took the Santas along Seaward Way and the seafront, while a shorter one and a half-mile route weaved between the houses and back through the recreation ground.
Despite the wind and rain, entries were up on last year, with 80 Santas registered in advance and a further 15 on the day, and the blustery conditions added to the challenge and excitement along the seafront for those tackling the full five miles.
Rotary club marshals were well supported by friends of the club, volunteers from Minehead Running Club, Minehead Lions Club and Butlin’s, with no incidents reported and the Red Cross ambulance remaining at the college all morning.
“We are very grateful for the community support for this event, we couldn’t do it without them” said Delia Paveling of Mineheand the Quantocks Rotary Club.
Once again this year, many entries were groups of families and friends across the generations, with a large group from Wiveliscombe joining the fun.
“Everyone was having a good time with fun and laughter recorded on many photos and ‘selfies’,” said Mrs Paveling.
Medals for the winners were presented in the Christmas Fair in the college main hall, where traditional stalls, refreshments and bouncy castles added to the festive spirit.
“The Rotary Club will be presenting a cheque to the Red Cross for £1000 to support their work locally and internationally,” said Mrs Paveling.
“In particular we would like to highlight the excellent work the Red Cross contribute to the local community - for example, the work of the Red Cross ambulance crews.”
