WATCHET Town Council is holding a public meeting on Monday (November 23) to try to put in place measures to protect the town from possible flooding.

There will be the opportunity to have one-to-one conversations with experts and to put forward concerns and ideas.

The council has invited Geoff Mackie, from Civil Contingencies, Teresa Bridgeman of Old Cleeve Parish Council and West Somerset Flood Group, and representatives of the Environment Agency Rose Lloyd and Tori Johnstone.

They will be introduced at the start of the meeting at 7pm before breaking into the drop-in session so that people will not be confined to a public question and answer session.

Town Mayor, Cllr Peter Murphy said: “We need to have a flood plan in place in the event of extreme conditions and some people may want to volunteer and act as flood wardens in a time of threat.

“This meeting should give residents the opportunity to have any concerns listened to whilst giving them the opportunity to play their part in helping to protect vulnerable areas of Watchet from the risk of flooding.”
