BIKE rides and walks for parents in West Somerset who want to get active will get underway in the coming week. A programme of events has been drawn up by West Somerset District Council leisure and development officer Liz Stewart and Sam Fahey, family support co-ordinator at Watchet's Little Vikings. It follows the success of a mums and babies water- based programme staged through the SureStart initiative and is aimed at providing organised activities for parents who want to be active but are not keen on "doing it alone". Mrs Stewart said she had received several enquiries from women who are currently not using the Little Vikings centre but are interested in joining in the new activities. "We just want people to know that all parents are welcome to come along," she said. The first bike ride will take place on Wednesday followed by further rides on July 6 and 13, which all set off from the Mace shop in Watchet at 1pm. Afternoon walks are booked for next Friday, July 1, at Holford and July 15 at Clatworthy, with an all-day outing on August 5 at Tarr Steps but with walkers for all three sessions meeting at the Little Vikings centre. Transport can be provided and creche facilities are available. Further details are available on 01984 633655.
