SEVERAL first-time exhibitors helped increase the number of entries to Porlock Horticultural and Crafts Society Summer Show on Saturday, July 16.
The weather, as usual, presented a challenge to the gardeners hoping to show their finest blooms, fruits and vegetables.
But they came up trumps and filled the Village Hall with scent, colour and perfectly-formed exhibits, giving the judges quite a task!
Presentation can make a difference if the decision is close but it is everything in the ‘Decorative’ section where the arrangement of flowers, foliage and accessories makes the display.
But the exhibitors rose to the challenge and showed great imagination and skill in responding to the chosen themes.
Imagination and skill were also the order of the day in the handicrafts section which showcased finely crafted items, both practical and purely ornamental.
The themes in the photography section prompted a great variety of interpretations and made a very interesting display with pictures taken all over the world as well as local scenes.
Sadly, there was only one children’s entry but it was a worthy winner earning the artist, Beverley Pratt, a rosette and trophy!
The show also included plant sales, a raffle, a book stall and homemade refreshments and Porlock Village Hall buzzed all afternoon with appreciative visitors.
The afternoon finished with a presentation of cups and trophies by West Somerset councillor Karen Mills.
