MINEHEAD'S Probus Club branched out on its annual spring break by venturing across the English Channel. A total of 30 members and partners enjoyed the club's first foreign venture with a three-day trip to Bruges. Taking a local Traveline coach to Dover and then on by ferry, the visit was organised by club chairman Brian Hardcastle. The highlights included a visit to the Flanders Field Museum at Ypres, a walking tour of Bruges and a trip to a chocolate makers, along with a journey to Ostend to walk along the Atlantic Wall, the Second World War sea defence constructed by the Germans in Belgium. The club's spring breaks are among a range of activities staged for members, who are all retired business or professional men, which include monthly outings, visits and trips to local pubs for lunch. Mr Hardcastle said: "This was the first time we had been abroad as a group and we had a wonderful time." The club meets every other Wednesday at Minehead's Northfield Hotel, alternatively for coffee and business, and lunch. New members are always welcome and more details are available from Mr Hardcastle on 01643 702610 or the secretary Keith La Grande on 01643 709176.
