PUMPS were mobilised from three fire stations across West Somerset on Monday afternoon (May 22) to tackle a blaze in a first-floor Minehead flat.

Minehead, Williton, and Porlock fire crews attended the call-out and saw smoke billowing from the upstairs home as they arrived in Hopcott Road.

The firefighters quickly established that the flat was empty and everybody who had been in it was accounted for.

They put out the fire using two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet, a triple extension ladder, and positive pressure ventilation.

An investigation showed the fire started in the lounge area of the flat and was of ‘accidental origin’.
