FIREFIGHTING crews in West Somerset were kept busy on Thursday (May 18) with a number of incidents happening one after the other.

First, crews from Minehead and Williton were called to a farm near Roadwater just after 2.30 pm when an agricultural machine caught alight.

They found that not only was a baler on fire but the flames had also set light to half an acre of field.

A water carrier was called from Bridgwater to help with the incident and the crews set about containing the fire using hose reels, compressed air foam, drag forks, and beaters.

The operation lasted about three hours before the fire was put out.

Then, Nether Stowey firefighters were mobilised to support crews from Bridgwater and Taunton dealing with a house fire in Bridgwater which broke out shortly before 4 pm.

The crews used breathing apparatus to enter the property put out a fire in the first floor bathroom.

Finally, Williton fire crews attended a hedgerow on fire in Watchet just after 8 pm.

They found hedges and fencing were on fire and it appeared to be a case of arson.

The firefighters used a high pressure hose reel and raking fork to put out the flames, which took several hours to do.
