DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service crew manager Kevin Mitcham visited the Sanctuary, in Watchet, last week to give a talk about ‘Home Fire Safety’ to members of the Forget Me Not Café.

He made his audience laugh with “some awful jokes” but also showed the serious side of risks that many people take with cooking, smoking, the use of electrical appliances and the need for suitable maintained smoke detection finishing off with advice on escape planning.

Kevin finished by taking everyone’s contact details as DSFRS aim to visit as many local homes as possible to reduce the risk of domestic fires, starting particularly the commonly preventable incidents attended across Devon and Somerset.

After the talk, the Forget Me Not members transferred to the Star Inn for an early Christmas dinner with songs from local troubadour and town crier David MiltonKevin is pictured with Margaret Tatham, Watchet and the Quantocks Dementia Action Alliance leader, at the Sanctuary, and below, them, friends and members of the Forget Me Not Café at the Star Inn.
