THREE months of planning went in to this year's annual senior citizens' Christmas party hosted by year 11 students at the West Somerset Community College in Minehead.

Having mapped out what needed to be done, the tasks were divided up and responsibilities shared out, with year 13 public service students called in to help as well.

Formal invitations were sent out to local pensioners and soon the college had a guest list of more than 120 potential diners.

And as it does every year, local community transport provider Atwest provided staff and ten minibuses to pick them up from around the district and take them home afterwards.

A number of West Somerset businesses lent their support to the venture, and tables and chairs were provided by Minehead Marquees and Minehead Social Club loaned a bingo machine.

College staff and students also did their bit, with singers and musicians adding to the entertainment and catering staff and students coming up trumps with their festive fare.

Richard Ansell, subject leader, said: "Thankfully there is a great team at the college and in the community that allow this event to run as smoothly as it does."

He thanked everyone who had supported the lunch and donated Christmas gifts for the guests.
