THE fourth heatwave of the UK summer bathed the 177th annual Dunster Show on Friday (August 15), ensuring bumper crowds visited for a unique opportunity to see the best of West Somerset farming and livestock.
The show’s entertainment line-up made for a fun day out for the whole family with a wide variety of trade stands and activities.

Warning issued for whole of Christmas Day as strong winds set to hit WestcountryOG Performance Horses gave a captivating performance in the main ring, a sheepdog display replaced the ‘Dog and Duck Show’, and there was a parade of vintage tractors, a Punch and Judy show, and circus entertainers, while the show’s food hall proved as popular as ever with sample foods from local producers.
Zoe McCanlis and won a set of antlers given by the joint masters of the Devon and Somerset Staghounds for the best local hunter which had not previously won at Dunster or Exford Shows.
She was a late entry to the show and rode Big Rocky, owned by Jack Pitman.
The supreme champion award went to young Charlotte Knight, who was riding Thistle Down Princess Letizia.
The show organisers decided on veterinarian advice against holding the traditional parade of cattle and sheep because of the extreme heat.
