NORTH Molton farmers Maurice and Judy Vellacott have finally waved goodbye to their diesel generators after becoming the last of 50 Exmoor householders to be connected to mains electricity.

The couple have had to rely on two generators for all their electricity for the last 17 years as they could not afford the £50,000 cost of being added to the mains supply.

However, recent grants from Europe, Exmoor National Park Authority and local councils helped to reduce the cost to a more manageable £5,000.

The couple wasted no time in calling in engineers from Western Power Distribution (WPD) and now hope the bonus of mains electricity will help them sell the property in the near future.

Sharon Cross from WPD, said: "We are delighted the project is now coming to a successful conclusion."
