A CHILDREN’S cancer charity based in and around Nether Stowey has worked tirelessly throughout the year to raise £20,000 for Oak children’s ward at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

The Marion Evered Trust charity was started 44 years ago after the death of Marion’s granddaughter Tracy, aged five, from leukaemia.

She had spent time in the children’s cancer ward receiving chemotherapy, and the family vowed to raise funds to help young children and their families going through similar treatment.

“Year on year, everyone raises a fantastic amount, and once again there’s been a fantastic amount of support and effort to raise this phenomenal amount of money,” said Marion’s grandson Jason Barrow, a committee member of the trust.

“Friends and family of the trust all pull together and fundraise throughout the year.”

Events were held in and around Nether Stowey and the Quantocks, including everything from coffee mornings and a tractor run to sponsored walks and cream teas.

The most recent visit to the hospital was to hand over a £20,000 cheque to ward matron Suzanne Pilkington and paediatrician Dr Linda Whiteford.
