FUN reigned in the summer holidays when a West Somerset charity held activity days as part of its work providing a service for parents, carers and children in rural isolation and areas of need.

CLOWN – Creating Learning Opportunities in WesterN Somerset – held a total of eight fun days in Carhampton, Minehead, Wheddon Cross, Dunster and Allerford, and ended with a final big woodland picnic on North Hill, Minehead.

Over the days they saw a total of 308 children and 174 adults, and provided all kinds of activities from an old fashioned school sports day to a water day with water slides and a water fight.

The days were part of the charity’s summer programme, and now the team is back to normal work, which includes the double decker playbus, outreach van, toy library and scrap-store which operates from the CLOWNS office at Minehead Eye.

The playbus visits different rural villages each week in term time, with parents, carers and their children welcomed aboard to have fun with activities from crafts and singing to storytime.

The charity, which has been going for 20 years, is currently facing funding issues and its original team of 14 has now been reduced to six.
